So what did you read this spring? Summer is officially here for moi: It’s been a humid 80’s/90’s week and I finished my last final this morning- and I’m chomping to get to some new reads.
Any suggestions?
Here are a few of my favorite books so far this year:
1.
Sometimes a really quirky book set in a nonsensical location is just what the doctor ordered- and this book fits the bill. I read The Prisoner of Zenda in an hour or so, it’s fantastic.
Think The Man in the Iron Mask meets The Man Who Would Be King. It’s flat-out goofy.

If you haven’t read this book yet, then you are seriously missing out. David Lebowitz will leave you rolling with his hilarious, yet truthful stories about life in City of Light. His sections detailing his mispronunciation of French words are particularly delightful.

The first book of The Hunger Games series is fantastic. I was really consumed by the story, Its one of the best young adult titles that I’ve read in years.
Books 2 & 3 are good, but I found myself wishing for an adult version. There were some themes that could have been explored a bit more in the sequels. I think they could have been a good deal darker, and some scenes were kind of skimmed over in the interest of young readers.
However, I would still recommend them, they are such a gripping series.
4.
The Geography of Bliss tops my list of best books ever. I’m infatuated by the idea of happiness, who has it, and who doesn’t. Eric Weiner does an excellent job of defining what true happiness is as he explores ideas of safety versus trust, poverty versus wealth, and the other fascinating themes.
I stopped so many times during the book to write down quotes, that I finally had to scrap note taking and just read. It’s packed with wisdom, and really challenges many of our (American) beliefs about what happiness is. I plan on reading it again soon with a notebook and highlighter in hand.

Thanks for this. I have a reader but never know what books to get for it. I can see the David Lebovitz book being really inspirational for me, my sister is begging me to read hunger games and that last one just looks good. I have no suggestions for you because I've been scouring for a good read for weeks.
