The past month has been very busy, and blogging was pushed to the back burner…way back.
So, to get you up to speed: 10 things via iPhone…
1. A baby
Our friends added a new little Mister to their family, meet Avery Grant:
2. Molasses
I took my Dad to a Sorghum “press” at Tipton Haynes for his birthday.
3. History.
At a lecture, Andraé & I realized that we may be some of the few people under 50 who are fascinated by our local history.
Personally, I think it’s cool that I live on Daniel Boone’s Wilderness Road, among a history-book-full of other fascinating facts.
I also find it less than cool that young people don’t seem to be interested when an African American shares about her childhood inside white, Southern, post-Civil war household as the daughter of the cook and butler. Need I mention that the mansion is haunted no less. There were only four guests under 45-50. Andraé, myself, the city archivist and a teenage kid with his parents.
4. It’s PB or Nothing
I had Amish peanut butter pie in Indiana. People, it’s just so much better. I really don’t like Amish food at all, but their pies are far more amazing than anything I’ve ever had down south. It’s one of the things I miss most about living in N Indiana, besides my family. This is an Essenhaus version, which is still good, but it doesn’t compare to a homemade pie.
5. Two Old Crows
I bought two blackbirds (crows, ravens, whatever…) for fall and named them after my great-grandmothers.
Meet Lucille. (Violet is perched on an old wine jar in the corner.)
[It should be noted that I love my great-grandmothers and mean no disrespect. In my household, we name inanimate objects.]
6. Hale Springs Inn
Hubs and I spent a nice evening in Rogersville, enjoying the sights and smells of their fall festival.
This beautiful little town is so quaint, but the real jewel is Hale Springs Inn, with its history, ghosts and Troutdale kitchen.
The night’s special: a perfect, dry-roasted pork loin with all the fixin’s.
[Pardon the fuzz, the light was at that perfect level: too dark and cozy for an iPhone. But our server thought we needed a photo anyway.]
7. The Ugly
Andraé made me clean out my raised beds for fall. Of course he helped, but I haven’t forgiven him yet.
I’m still mourning the giant piles of beautiful catnip:
8. A Blizzard
A reward for surviving the first 3 weeks of October, which were actually really crappy, despite the lovely photographs.
Last October was terrible too. I think I may just check out during October 2013.
9. Alois Dallmayr
One day I suddenly realized that I hadn’t yet tried the jellies we bought in Munich 4 months ago.
Which then reminded me that I haven’t blogged about anything besides Paris yet. (Bad blogger)
10. Cereal Box Christmas Trees
I saw this idea on Pinterest, and thinking it would be a fun stress-reliever, invited my best pal over to get crafty with me.
I made mine with old dictionary pages, while Michaela fashioned hers after
none other than a character from her favorite show, Dr. Who.
The following night, my sister came over to try her hand:
That pretty much brings the blog up to date, except for one thing, the bright spot in all of October:
I (the person who cried, snotted, and panic-attacked her way through General Chemistry) am making an A in Organic Chemistry.
Hollaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Hollaaaahhh!!! Congrats on the A!
